In The Name of God Amen, the fyve and twentyth day of Februarie in the yeare of our Lord God 1587 and in the 30th yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Ladye Elizabeth by the Grace of God Queene of England, France and Ireland, Defender of the Fayth etc. I Thomas Penycod of Horsham in the diocess of Chichester, butcher, beinge of good and perfecte remembrance thanks be to God do make, ordaine, publisher and declare this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge First I render my sowle into the hands of Allmightye God my Creator and Maker reposing do all the whole fayth and truste of my salvation in no other thinge then only with the meritts and death of Jesus Christe my Saviour and Redeemer and my bodye I leave to the earth from wheare yt had his begininge, willing that the same be decently buryed in the churchyard of Horsham aforesayde in as much as I surely hope that yt shalbe parttaker of the glorious resurrection in Christe. And as towching my worldly goods I dispose and order them as followeth First I will that Thomas Patchinge my executor or some other appoynted by him shall give and distribute to and amongst the poor people of Horsham forty shillings on the day of my buriall. Item I give to the mother church of Chichester iiii d. Item I give unto viii of the poorest men of Horsham xii d a peece and they to beare my bodye to the buriall place yf need require. Item I give and bequeath to William Hasseldenes children to witt Mychael, Anthony, Margerye and Dorothy Hasselden vi s viii d a peece to be payed to so may of them as shalbe lyvinge at theire several days of theyre marriage or at theyre severall ages of xx yeares which of them shall first happen and I will that every of them shalbe each other's heyre of the same money yf any of them happen to dye before theyre several ages or days of marriage. Item I will and bequeath unto William Johnsons children viz to Johan, Agnes and Katherine, vi s viii d a peece to be payed to them and every of them at theyre severall ages of xx yeares or at theyre dayes of theire marriage which of them shall first happen, yf any of them shall happen to dye before theyre sayd age or dayes of marriage then every of them to be each other's heyres of the same as is afore declared. Item I will and bequeath in like manner to Thomas Feelds children viz to Thomas Feeld his sone and Elizabeth his daughter ten shillings a peece to be payed to them at theyre several ages of xx yeares or several dayes of marriage which of them shall first happen and yf eyther of them shall happen to dye before theyre sayd age or dayes of marriage then eyther of them to be the others heyre of the same bequest. Item I give to every one of my godchildren iiii d yf they do aske yt. Item I will and bequeath to John Johnson my brothers sonne X li (£10) to be payed him at the daye of his marriage or at twenty yeares of his age which of them shall first happen. Item I will and bequeath to Fridswith als Frisies Johnson ten shillings to be payed to her at the day of her marriage or twentye yeares of her age which of them shall first happen. Item I give unto Richard Johnson my brothers sonne iii s iiii d to be payed to him within one month next after my decease yf he do demand the same of my executor hereunder named within the sayd towne.The residue of all my goods, beasts, chattels, and debts not before given or bequeathed I give and bequeath to the saide Thomas Patching (brother to Henry Patching of Horsham) whome I do make and ordaine whole and sole executor of this my last will, the sayd Thomas to receive all and pay all and to see this my last will performed according to the trew meaning hereof. Provided allwayes and my very will and minde is that my sayd executor before he or any other in his name or to his use shall take upon him execution of this my present testament and laste will or shall have and take any benefitt or profitt of any of my goods, cattells, chattels or debts by administration or otherwise shalbe bound to the overseers of this my present testament and laste will by obligation in the somme of twnenty pounds of good and lawfull money of England which condition thereupon endorsed for the payment of all such debts as in equitye and conscience I do owe and for the trew performance keeping and fulfilling of this my present testament and laste will in all things according to the same.
