In the name of god amen, I Thomas Patching of the parish of Leigh in the county of Surrey and in the dioces of Winchester, yeoman, being in good health of body and in perfect memory, I thank god for it, doe make, institute and ordeyne this my last will and testament in manner and forme following, first I give and bequeth my soule unto Almighty God that gave it and my body to the earth to be buryed where god shall appoynt it. Item I do give unto [the] poore of the parish of Leigh X s to be bestowed at my buriall at the discretion of my Overseers. Item I doe will and bequeth unto Thomas Patching my eldest sonne, and to his heyrs forever, all that my parcell of land called Crockhurst, lying at Southwater in the parish of Horsham in the county of Sussex, conteyning by estimation XX acres of land, be it more or lesse, now in the tenure of me, the sayd Thomas Patching or my assigns Provided allwayes that the sayd Thomas my sonne or his heyrs shall pay or cause to be payed unto Sarah Patching, my youngest daughter, XX li [£20] of lawfull English mony to be payed within one yeere after my decease, (if he shall so long live) And if the sayd Thomas my sonne shall refuse to pay the sayd XX li or to put in sufficient security within one moneth after my decease for the true payment thereof to the contentment of my Overseers to be payde within one yeere after my decease as aforesayd, then my will and minde is that the sayde Sarah my daughter shall have, hold, occupy and injoy the sayde parcell of land with all and singular the profits and appurtenances thereunto belonging for the space or term of foure yeres next following after my decease and fully to be compleated and ended, yealding and paying therefore and only dureing the sayde term of foure years unto the sayde Thomas Patching, his heyrs of assigns, one peper corne and no more. Item I doe give unto my sayde sonne Thomas, all my right title and interest in one garden plot and together with the forge shop of the Towne of Horsham. Item I give and bequeth unto William Patching, my second sonne, all that my parcell of land called Piswiggs lying at Roughy Streete in the parish of Horsham aforesayde, conteyning by estymacion X acres of land be it more or less, now in the tenure of Richard Nye or his asslgnes, to have and to hold the sayde parcell of land with all and singular the appurtenances, unto the sayde William Patching and to the heyres of his body lawfully begotten or to be begotten, and for the want of such issue, to the heyres of me the sayde Thomas Patching forever. Item I doe give and bequeth unto John Patching, my youngest sonne, all that my tenement or cottage and parcel of land with all and singular th'appurtenances, set, lying and being in the towne of Horsham aforesayde, conteyning by estimacion iii acres of land be it more or less, now in the tenure of William Patching or his assignes, to have and to hold the sayde tenement or cottage and parcell of land with all and singular the appurtenances, unto the sayde John Patching and to the heyres of his body lawfully begotten or to be begotten, and for want of such issue, to the heyres of me the sayde Thomas Patching forever. Provided Allwayes that the said John Patching, his heyres &c, shall pay or cause to be payed unto Anne Patching, my second daughter, (out of the said cottage) the sum of XX li of lawfull English mony to be payde within one yeere next after my decease. And if the sayde John shall refuse to pay the sayde XX li or to put in sufficient security within one moneth after my decease, for the true payment thereof, to the contentment of my Overseers, to be payde within one yeere after my decease as aforesayde, then I doe by these presents give my overseers together with my Executor, full power to sell the sayde cottage and parcell of land, above bequethed, and to divide the profits of the sale equally between the sayde John my sonne and the sayde Anne my daughter. Item I doe give unto my sayde sonne Thomas Patching, the lease of my farme wherein I now dwell. Item I doe give unto my sayde sonne Thomas, six pieces of my best pewter, foure payer of sheets indifferently chosen, one fetherbed, one bolster, and the best bedsteddle save one, one chest the best save one, my best peice of brasse, one little kettle, one table and forme, one keeler, iii truges. Item I doe give unto my sayde second sonne William Patching iii peices of pewter indifferently chosen and one payre of sheets. Item I doe give unto my sonne James Patching one payre of sheets and one peice of pewter. Item I give my sonne John one payre of sheets, ii peices of pewter, one chest, one brasse pan. Item I doe give unto my eldest daughter, Elzabeth the wife of Gilbat Bristowe, X s. Item I doe give unto my daughter Anne [Patching deleted] the wife of Thomas Binnes, my best bedsteddle, my best flock bed and bolster, one covering, one blanket, foure payre of sheets indifferently chosen, six peices of pewter indifferently chosen, one cauldren and one kettle, one possatt, one presse, one chest, iii candle sticks indifferently chosen, ii joyn stooles, one chayre, one chafing dish, one keeler, ii trugs, one spit, one dripping pan. Item I doe give unto Sara Patching, my youngest daughter, ten pounds of lawfull English mony, beside the twenty pounds allready given to be payde within two yeeres after my decease by my Executor. Item I doe give unto the sayde Sara my daughter six pieces of pewter of the best, foure payre of sheets indifferently chosen. All the rest of my goods, my debts payde, my sayde legasyes discharged and my body honestly buryed, I doe give and bequeth unto my [youngest daughter Sara Patching deleted] eldest sonne Thomas Patching whome I doe make my whole and sole [Executrix deleted] Executor of this my last will and testament. Finally I doe appoynt my well beloved in Christ, John Woodman junior, of the parish of Leigh, William White of the same for Overseers of this my last will and testament and for theyr paynes to be taken herein I doe give each of them iii s and iiii d.
