Romsey, Hampshire

The lovely old market town of Romsey sits on the banks of the river Test in south west Hampshire, 7 miles north west of Southampton. The town is dominated by it's Norman abbey, built between 1120 and 1140 on the site of the much older Saxon church, a Benedictine Abbey, founded by King Edward the Elder in 907. His daughter Aelflaed was the first Abbess of Romsey.
