Harriet Ellen Lawrence

Harriet Ellen Lawrence and her twin sister Elizabeth Matilda were born on 19th January 1879 in Stratford, Essex, the daughter of Edwin Lawrence and his wife Mary Ann, formerly Porch. Harriet was probably the younger twin as Elizabeth's name always appears above Harriet's in the census records. She grew up in West Ham in London's East End.

Harriet never married but had one son Edwin in 1899. She moved to Eastleigh, Hampshire with her son, mother, brother and sister in about 1910. The family lived at 174 Southampton Road, Eastleigh. The house belonged to her brother William who was the family's main bread winner. After William's death in 1925 the house passed to his sister Elizabeth and then to Harriet in 1937. Harriet remained in the same house until her death on 25th September 1949. She left a will which was proved on 31st October 1949 in Winchester by her executor and grandson Edwin William Patrick Lawrence. Value of effects - £957, 17 s 8d.
