The ancestors of my paternal grandfather George William Chapman hail mainly from Romsey, Hampshire and the surrounding villages of East and West Tytherley, Lockerley and West Dean. The exception being his great grandmother, Lydia Dawes, who was born in Henfield, Sussex and whose ancestry can be traced back many centuries. Associated families in Hampshire include, Collins, East, Waterman, Moody, London, Harden and Tuck, and in Sussex Dawes, Beard, Mitchell, Lucy, Smith, Turner, Drake, Burstow, Holcomb, Harland, Redford, Mercer, and Jenner.
